Dascha,

Thanks so much for sharing this story. Rather than focus on the literary riches you delivered with the 7 story archetypes, I was transported to a different age and reminisced.

Like Rob, I, too, studied the cello — from the third grade (when I was about 3 feet high) through college.

I, too, had the distinct pleasure of schlepping that monster back and forth to school. Children didn’t get rides to school in the early ’60s. They had feet, shoes if they were lucky, and sturdy legs. Besides, the one car the family owned was with Dad at work. Buses? Not in that era in San Jose, CA.

So, I schlepped, and I was teased mercilessly. The thing was twice my size.

But none of that was as hellish as playing the cello part of Pachelbel’s Canon in D. I never thought to count the number of repetitions we were forced to play of those eight notes. Clever move on Rob’s part.

Thanks for the memories. And thanks for introducing me to the brilliance of Rob. What a delight!

Best,

Sharon
