When English Is This Clear, TV News Anchors Call It “Cryptic”
Does It Take a Rocket Scientist?
by Sharon Turnoy
What was all the crap on the news that Mueller’s comments about Trump’s guilt were “cryptic”? Does anyone else understand plain, very carefully composed, clear English? Here is Mueller’s statement (emphases are his, not mine):
“IF we had had confidence that the President clearly did NOT commit a crime, we would have said so. We did NOT, however, make a determination as to whether the President DID commit a crime.”
Mueller goes on to give us important instructions to understand every word he used in that sentence. Go to the introduction to Volume 2 of his report, he says. There you will find the explanation as to WHY they did not conclude whether the President had committed a crime. And to save you the trouble, he reads it to us:
“Under longstanding Justice Department policy, a President cannot be charged with a crime while he is in office. That would be unconstitutional.”
Mueller was appointed by the Justice Department. His office was part of the Justice Department. His entire operation was bound by Justice Department policies.
